Spelling

Students will be working on spelling throughout the year.   Our goal with spelling is that students will learn the rules that govern spelling and be able to apply it to their daily writing.  The students will also be working on writing sentences using their words.

The spelling words are available on the page with the Reading Lesson that they are linked with.

Ideas for practicing spelling at home:

Write the words on a chalkboard or white board.
Use magnetic letters to spell the words.
Write the words in food (pudding, jello, alphabets cereal, etc.)
Write a story using and underlining the words.
Cut out the words from an old newspaper or magazine.
Make up cheers with the words (Give me a "a.")
Write the words in different colors or decorate the words.
Have a race to see who can write the word the fastest.
